Chefchaouen: Blue City in the Mountains / Tetouan

While studying in Seville, Spain, I took a quick trip down to Morocco. The voyage down wasn't exactly speedy, though; my group missed the first passenger boat, which makes the trip in just under two hours, and ended up taking a 5-hour long ride on a...cargo boat! Needless to say, we made it to Tangiers by 1 am, were greeted at our hotel with a wonderful dinner and dessert, and headed to bed immediately after to be ready for a long day of sight-seeing.

In the morning, we visited (by bus) the city of Tangiers, and by noon were on our way to Tetouan. After two hours on the bus, we were all starving and had to use the bathroom. Just around the corner from our parking spot / restaurant, in a tiny alleyway, someone badly parked, making it impossible for us to pass. There was also no chance of backing up since the moment we stopped moving, the traffic piled up behind us! After 30-40 minutes of debating what to do, our bus driver, a few other drivers, onlookers, and policemen tried to push the car out of the way. After making the car budge a few inches, the owner of the car finally came running over and moved it!

Our last night/following day (Sunday) in Morocco was spent in Chefchaouen, a village in the mountains of northern Morocco. From our hotel high above the village, everything looked painted white, but once down in the village, everything was painted blue! Walls, steps, houses, doors, signs, streets, everything - painted in different shades of blue. Some of the streets were completely empty when we walked through them. People had left their doors cracked open, but the insides were all dark. It gave a very eerie feeling!
